Maria Kanellis putting brains, beauty to good use outside WWE

ScrippsNews.com conducted an interview with Maria via telephone last Tuesday, check it out.

This isn’t how Maria Kanellis planned to spend “Wrestlemania 26″ weekend.

One month ago, Kanellis expected to be a part of the festivities surrounding World Wrestling Entertainment’s annual pay-per-view extravaganza. WWE, though, abruptly fired one of its most popular female performers just as she was about to receive her greatest mainstream exposure on “Celebrity Apprentice.”

To her credit, Kanellis didn’t let the release slow her budding entertainment career. She quickly agreed to serve as a “backstage correspondent” on the “King of the Cage: Legacy” mixed-martial-arts show airing live from Reno, Nev., at 10 p.m. EDT Friday on HD-Net.

“This is definitely a new adventure,” Kanellis said Tuesday during a telephone interview. “It’s funny because I was on the road a lot of times (with WWE) when there were MMA shows going on. I don’t know about it as much as I would like, but I’m going to know a lot about it very soon.”

Maria makes her MMA debut this Friday

RGJ.com mentioned Maria in a recent article about this Friday’s King of the Cage event.

The card includes a mix of title holders, local fighters and one reality TV star, Maria Kanellis.

Kanellis is a former WWE diva and wrestler and is currently in the TV show “Celebrity Apprentice.” She will be doing backstage interviews Friday for the HDNet channel, which is broadcasting the main events.

Kanellis was recently named WWE’s Diva of the Year for 2009, a fan vote as decided by the WWE Universe.

As was announced earlier this month, Maria will be joining the HDNet MMA broadcast team.  Her first event is King of the Cage, Friday March 26th at 10pm EST.  If you get HDNet, be sure to tune in!  I know I will be.
