Maria SD Segment in 720p HD!
Unfortunately Maria didnt have a match this week on Smackdown, but she did appear in a backstage segment. Maria & Brie Bella were talking backstage, when Victoria and Natalya burst in and ruined all the fun. Maria/Brie Bella vs. Victoria/Natalya was confirmed for next week’s Smackdown! Maria’s recent trip to Japan was everything the Diva expected and more … including the culture shock. (PHOTOS)
“There are people who speak English, but there aren’t that many out there. I’ve been there a couple of times before, but every time, it’s just a shock to me!” she said.
But, don’t mistake the SmackDown Diva’s unique experience for one of dislike. Maria adores traveling to Japan and seeing our fans.

Woman goes to the mat for a shot at ring fame

As a child, Maria Kanellis spent evenings in the living room watching professional wrestling with her father and brother.
After the telecasts, family members engaged in their own mayhem — sans ring ropes, metal chairs and foreign objects. The only serious injuries befell the occasional piece of furniture.
“We loved watching it and acting it out,” Kanellis said. “I grew up as a fan of Hulk Hogan, ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and Lita.”
From the living room of her parents’ home to the grand theater of WrestleMania XXIV, the 26-year-old Kanellis continues to find joy in a staged sport and an unscripted life.
The Ottawa, Ill., native will take part in the World Wrestling Entertainment card Sunday night at Nationwide Arena. Also scheduled to appear: Smackdown and ECW stars Triple H, Mark Henry, Jeff Hardy, Big Show and MVP.

Maria plays SDvsRAW09
Maria stopped by the IGN offices to play the new Smackdown vs RAW 2009 video game. This is the first time Maria will be playable in a video game, and she is also the Womens Champion in the game! Shes very cute and playful in the video, definitely worth checking out!

Prominence and marketability factored into the rankings as it’s not only based on technical ability and accomplishments. PWI wrote: “We evaluated each woman on championships held, quality of opposition faced, overall athletic ability, prominence, and marketability. To some critics, those last two criteria may be controversial. After all, some may argue that wrestlers like Maria Kanellis and Velvet Sky have no business being ranked ahead of more scientifically skilled technicians like Cindy Rogers and Lexie Fyfe. We would argue that marketability and prominence are an important aspect of pro wrestling, and that the success of these Divas and Knockouts have had on such a major stage has to be taken into consideration.”
