“There are people who speak English, but there aren’t that many out there. I’ve been there a couple of times before, but every time, it’s just a shock to me!” she said.
But, don’t mistake the SmackDown Diva’s unique experience for one of dislike. Maria adores traveling to Japan and seeing our fans.

Woman goes to the mat for a shot at ring fame

As a child, Maria Kanellis spent evenings in the living room watching professional wrestling with her father and brother.
After the telecasts, family members engaged in their own mayhem — sans ring ropes, metal chairs and foreign objects. The only serious injuries befell the occasional piece of furniture.
“We loved watching it and acting it out,” Kanellis said. “I grew up as a fan of Hulk Hogan, ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and Lita.”
From the living room of her parents’ home to the grand theater of WrestleMania XXIV, the 26-year-old Kanellis continues to find joy in a staged sport and an unscripted life.
The Ottawa, Ill., native will take part in the World Wrestling Entertainment card Sunday night at Nationwide Arena. Also scheduled to appear: Smackdown and ECW stars Triple H, Mark Henry, Jeff Hardy, Big Show and MVP.
